Cello Lessns with Amanda (60 min TRIAL LESSON)

Hi! My name is Amanda and I am a cellist currently based in New York City. I have studied and performed internationally since the age of 7, when I began my musical training in Taiwan, studying both cello and piano. Presently, I am a student at the Juilliard School, pursuing my Master of Music degree under the tutelage of Professor Darrett Adkins. I also hold a B.M degree in cello performance from New England Conservatory of Music where I studied with professor Yeesun Kim.

I was the youngest student of Professor Ling-Yi Ouyang of the National Taiwan Normal University. I moved to Toronto at the age of 11 to study cello with David Hetherington after being awarded a scholarship to the Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy for Young Artists.

I continued my piano studies in Toronto with Li Wang of the Glenn Gould School until Iearned my RCME grade 10 with first class honors. In 2013, I became the youngest cello
prize winner of the 8th Toronto Sinfonietta Concerto Competition. From 2019-2020, I served as principal cello of the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra founded by
maestro Benjamin Zander.

During the course of my cello studies, I have performed in master classes taught by renowned artists, such as, Timothy Eddy, Michel Straus, Colin Carr, Raphael Wallfisch, Matt Haimovitz, Andres Diaz, Desmond Hoebig and many more, and has been awarded scholarships to attend music festivals such as the Banff Centre Arts programs, Aspen Music Festival, Formosa Chamber Music Festival and Orford Musique.

My passion for pedagogy has made me teach a wide variety of students from a young age. I started giving both piano and cello private lessons when I was 17 years old. These experiences have truly shaped my teaching methods and allowed me to tailor my teaching style for beginner, intermediate, and advanced students. I structure my lessons
to match my students’ personality, learning style, as well as emphasizing a solid technical foundation. I am looking to help students who want to learn or enhance their skills on the cello. I hope to simply inspire music appreciation and motivate you to be a great cellist!
